VSI has entered into agreements with various local Veterinarians for the provision of certain veterinary services and has agreed to pay a portion of the fees (50%) for those services in accordance with the funds received from Greenview on an annual basis.

Any producers of cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, bison, cutter bees and honeybees who wish to participate in the program must enter into a VSI agreement with Greenview. Once the membership process has been completed, Greenview will issue a VSI number unique to that individual.  To apply for a VSI number, please contact the Agricultural Services Department at (780) 524-7621.

The Agricultural Services department offers an Alberta Agriculture PTO water pump with one mile of pipe on a trailer for use within the Municipal District of Greenview No. 16.  With this co-operative program the M.D. is able to offer the service at a reduced rate to farmers.  We urge ratepayers who need the equipment to book as soon as possible.  Water pumping equipment must be booked well in advance especially in a dry year as the equipment can be very busy.  If more than 1 mile of pipe or more than one pump is required, bookings will be referred to Alberta Agriculture.  A rental agreement must be signed in order to rent the water pump and pipe trailer.  For pricing please view the Schedule of Fees or the Rental Catalog.

To book the equipment please call 780-524-7621 contact us. For information on the Alberta Agriculture and Forestry Water Hauling Program please click here.

Greenview Agricultural Services Department will be spraying roadsides within Greenview starting in late May and shall continue until mid/late September, depending on weather conditions and the length of the growing season.  Herbicide applications, both spot treatment and broadcast treatment (Ward 1,3,4, and 8) as well as other integrated management practices will be used throughout Greenview to control weeds and brush.

Selective herbicide application on roadsides is done to control the spread of noxious and prohibited noxious weeds and re-growth of small brush. The Provincial Weed Control Act dictates which species of weeds are to be controlled by the municipality and on private property. Most weed species are very prolific seed producers and can produce as many as 300,000 seeds per plant.  These seeds can then germinate the following growing season or lay dormant in the soil for a number of years until growing conditions are favourable for germination.  Many deep-rooted perennials spread via the root system, therefore a single plant left alone can result in a heavy infestation in a relatively short period of time.

Weed infestations can invade and become the dominant plant species on any given parcel of land causing a number of problems:

  • Limiting light and moisture availability to cereal and hay crops thus reducing yields and resulting in dockage
  • Invading and choking out beneficial and native species
  • Can be responsible for livestock poisoning
  • Can pose a serious fire hazard
  • Obstruct visibility along roadsides and intersections
  • Brush left to grow along roadsides also poses various problems:
  • The obstruction of visibility along roadsides and intersections creating a situation that allows wildlife to jump onto the roadway unseen
  • Roads tend to retain moisture longer requiring more maintenance
  • They can pose a serious fire hazard
  • Creates a snow removal problem

The herbicides which will be used this upcoming season (Clearview- PCP #29752, Desormone- PCP #15027, Escort- PCP  #23005, Garlon 4- PCP #21053, Garlon Ultra- PCP #28434, Garlon XRT – PCP #28495, Garlon RTU – PCP #29334, Lontrel 360- PCP #23545, Milestone- PCP #28517, Overdrive- PCP #30065, Tordon 101- PCP #9007, Tordon 22K- PCP # 9005, 2,4-D- PCP #14726, Sightline – PCP #30409, Vantage XRT – PCP #29994, Arsenal _ PCP #23713) are the same which we have used over the past several years.  Some of these herbicides have residual characteristics, so ratepayers should use caution when using roadside soil or plant material in garden and crop areas.

Residents who wish to be exempt from the Roadside Vegetation Management Program may complete a Spray Exemption Agreement.

You can download and complete the agreement and return a Greenview Office: Spray Exemption Agreement Spray Exemption Appendix

Agreements can also be signed in person, at the Valleyview Agricultural Services Office, DeBolt Public Service Building or the  Grovedale Operations Office Monday-Friday from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm.

Residents who have any concerns or questions with respect to the vegetation management in their area are urged to contact the Agricultural Services Department at 780-524-7621.
