The Municipal District of Greenview (including the Town of Valleyview) is proud to be a designated community under the Rural Renewal Stream of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program.

The Rural Renewal Stream offers eligible workers the opportunity to immigrate to Alberta as a Provincial Nominee with the formal support of the municipal government.

With the support of this program, the MD of Greenview (including the Town of Valleyview) will fill local labour gaps by endorsing employers and job seekers to fast-track immigration for eligible candidates.

Application Process

Applications will require a 30-day review process.

Employers with vacancies submit an application to the MD of Greenview Economic Development Department to join the Rural Renewal Program.

The MD of Greenview will review applications and may conduct an interview with the employer to determine eligibility and participation in the program. Employers will be specifically requested to provide details on how they will support the endorsed candidate’s transition and integration into the community.

Employers that are not willing to take an active role in supporting endorsed candidates’ integration into the community WILL NOT be accepted into the program.

The MD of Greenview will post the employer’s vacancy to the MD of Greenview (including the Town of Valleyview) Rural Renewal Stream Job Posting Board.

Employer issues a job offer to the candidate for full-time, permanent work.

The employer applies to the MD of Greenview for a Letter of Endorsement on behalf of the candidate.

The MD of Greenview issues an endorsement letter directly to the candidate.

The candidate applies for provincial nomination through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program Portal.

Once the candidate has received their 204C letter from the Government of Alberta, they must apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

The employer’s candidate(s) are added to the MD of Greenview (including the Town of Valleyview) Rural Renewal Stream Community Partnership database for ongoing updates and support as they move through the immigration process and integrate into the community.

Rural Renewal Stream – Employers

Employers are an organization or companies seeking candidates to fill labour gaps through the Rural Renewal Stream.

If you are an employer located within the MD of Greenview (including the Town of Valleyview) and are interested in participating in the Rural Renewal Stream to fill labour gaps and support candidates in attaining permanent residency, information can be found here.

Employers play an integral role in the MD of Greenview (including the Town of Valleyview) Rural Renewal Stream’s success in attracting newcomers to fill vacant positions and ensuring the endorsed candidate has successfully integrated into the community.  Employers that do not agree to support the candidate’s transition into the community will NOT be accepted into the program.

If your company is interested in participating in the program, please review the Employer Criteria below. Once you have reviewed the criteria, please complete the application form and submit it via email to ruralrenewal@mdgreenview.ab.ca.

To qualify for the Rural Renewal Stream, employers must meet the eligibility criteria outlined below:

  1. The company must be incorporated or registered by or under an act of the legislature of a province, territory, or the Parliament of Canada and operate as a business that has an established production capability, plant, or place of business in Alberta.
  2. Have full-time employment (continuous, 12 months or more) that meets the criteria of the Rural Renewal Stream as defined by the Government of Alberta and the MD of Greenview (including the Town of Valleyview) Rural Renewal Community Partnership, including wages and benefits that meet or exceed the lowest starting wage for this occupation across all industries and Alberta as set out on the ALIS website.
  3. Have a valid MD of Greenview or Town of Valleyview Business License.
  4. Not be in violation of any federal or provincial regulations.
  5. Not have any Occupational Health and Safety complaints within the 24 months prior to applying and be in good standing.
  6. Do not have any health violations through Alberta Health Services within the 24 months before applying and be in good standing.
  7. Be in good standing with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
  8. Demonstrate that you or your business have knowledge of the employer’s responsibilities with respect to federal and provincial immigration laws and regulations.
  9. Demonstrate that you have satisfied program requirements to fill the position within Canada and the outcomes of your efforts. A Labour Market Impact Assessment is not required, but demonstrated efforts to recruit locally, provincially, and nationally are required. For the MD of Greenview (including the Town of  Valleyview) Rural Renewal Program, the employer must demonstrate the position has been posted for at least two weeks.
  10. Demonstrate that you have a welcoming workplace and are aware of the risks of recruiting newcomers to the workplace and community.
  11. Agree to take a lead role in advancing newcomer success in our community. Employers are required to demonstrate knowledge of the responsibilities of welcoming newcomers and providing a warm and welcoming environment.
  12. Meet all eligibility criteria under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program Rural Renewal Stream prior to issuing an offer of employment. Please review the available information carefully and ensure you meet all the requirements.

Rural Renewal Stream – Candidates

Candidates are individuals seeking employment and permanent residency in Canada through the Rural Renewal Stream. Also known as an employee, job seeker, newcomer, or immigrant.

Greenview is made up of a diverse land mass that also includes a diverse workforce to create well-rounded communities throughout with an array of services and amenities.

If you are a non-Canadian resident who is interested in obtaining permanent residency by living and working within Greenview or the Town of Valleyview, please see the eligibility criteria below.

To be eligible for the Rural Renewal Stream and work in the MD of Greenview or the Town of Valleyview, candidates must meet a series of criteria, receive an offer for a full-time, permanent position from an eligible employer, get endorsed by the MD of Greenview (including the Town of  Valleyview) Rural Renewal Partnership, and apply using the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program portal.

Prior to applying for an employment opportunity, candidates are encouraged to review, understand and ensure they meet all eligibility requirements under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program. There are requirements for:

  • job experience
  • education
  • language
  • financial security

Candidates are responsible for ensuring they meet the eligibility of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) Rural Renewal Stream. Please review the Terms and Conditions for the Rural Renewal Stream. Submission of an application or nomination by the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program does not guarantee you will be issued a permanent resident visa.

Those who do not meet the eligibility will not progress through the program. Candidates that are currently living in Canada are only eligible if they have valid temporary status in Canada.

Once a candidate is confident they meet the eligibility requirements, they may apply for employment.

Candidates must receive a job offer from an employer who is based within the MD of Greenview and/or the Town of Valleyview and has been approved by the MD of Greenview (including the Town of Valleyview) Rural Renewal Stream Partnership.

The MD of Greenview can only review requests for letters of endorsement after the candidate receives a job offer from an employer approved by the MD of Greenview (including the Town of Valleyview) Rural Renewal Stream Community Partnership.

The MD of Greenview (including the Town of Valleyview) Rural Renewal Stream Community Partnership is made up of community stakeholders with a shared mandate for supporting employers and newcomers to the region.

    • Greenview Economic Development is a department of the MD of Greenview responsible for providing an integrated approach to economic growth, supporting start-ups in start-ups, growth and expansion, and developing higher attraction numbers through tourism opportunities.
