PEACE REGION HOME TO “UNPRECEDENTED COLLABORATION” SAY REGIONAL OFFICIALS

CALGARY, AB, October 26, 2022 – At an event held in Calgary, the City of Grande Prairie, County of Grande Prairie, and MD of Greenview highlighted the unprecedented collaboration between municipal governments that has allowed the Peace Region to become a leader in traditional energy and emerging energy technology and innovation.

“Alberta’s Northwest is a leader in traditional energy and emerging energy technology. Our region will be home to cutting edge projects in the hydrogen, carbon capture, and geothermal spaces,” said Tyler Olsen, Reeve of the Municipal District of Greenview. “We share the energy industry’s commitment to decreasing our carbon footprint while continuing to supply much needed energy resources to the world. This is why we are leading the world in innovation and technology development for responsible energy production.”

“With a high quality of life, low cost of living and urban amenities paired with a seemingly endless outdoor playground, Alberta’s Northwest is not only a safe and prosperous place to invest – it is one of the best places to live, play and raise a family,” said Leanne Beaupre, Councillor, County of Grande Prairie. “People are looking for more in life, and I know from seeing it firsthand that our region has what it takes to grow, attract, and retain the best people.”

“Where most jurisdictions compete, our three municipalities have come together to maximize all that our region has to offer, which in turn maximizes the quality of life and opportunities for our constituents,” said Jackie Clayton, Mayor of Grande Prairie. “This unprecedented level of collaboration allows local companies to thrive while sharing in the natural wealth of our region.”

The event hosted a panel discussion on how Alberta’s Northwest is leading the way in net zero energy production featuring panelists Bob Nicolay, CAO, City of Grande Prairie, Carl Landry, Managing Director, Investments, Canada Infrastructure Bank, Pat Carlson, Chief Executive Officer, Kiwetinohk Energy, and Mike Gladstone, Director of External Affairs, Enbridge Inc.

The municipal partners will continue to build upon current projects such as the new Greenview Industrial Gateway, one of Canada’s leading net-zero eco-industrial developments; the Clairmont Corridor boasting family friendly residential neighborhoods and a significant supply of serviced industrial lands including Side Group Rail’s GPR Logistics Park; the Hughes Lake Industrial Area planned to accommodate a variety of business park development, energy, and eco-industrial areas all to create long-term investment and employment in the region and for all Albertans.
