Update #3 - May 12, 2024 - 11:00 am Last night, areas north and northeast of the wildfire experienced scattered showers, leading to a slight improvement in visibility. AB Forestry has deployed helicopters with buckets, actively identifying targets for air tankers. Despite challenging winds anticipated from the southwest over the next few days, clearer skies are expected, enhancing visibility for our firefighters on the ground and in the air. Update #2 - May 11, 2024 - 3:20 pm Wildfire GCU 007 travelled 12.8 km yesterday in an eastward direction crossing the Smoky River on Friday May 10, 2024. The fire is approximately 1 km on the other side of the river in the North Goodwin Area. The fire has not reached farmland and is currently in the valley. Update #1 - May 11, 2024 - 9:25 am Last night, an evacuation zone was declared in the North Goodwin area. RCMP notified a small number of residents who were evacuated to Valleyview. Fire growth overnight was minimal, and Greenview will provide an update at 3:00 pm on May 11, 2024. For information regarding the response on the west side of the Big Smoky, please follow the County of Grande Prairie website www.countygp.ab.ca.
