Current wildfire status (Sunset House Area) update from Greenview Emergency Operations Centre

The following information is the latest update provided by Alberta Forestry’s Incident Command in charge of the fire. Because this is a Forestry fire, they are the lead for firefighting operations and provide Greenview with information approved by them for release.

Greenview strives to provide a timely high-level summary of active wildfires within Greenview and will post updates to evacuation orders and alerts as available and provided by Alberta Forestry and the Province of Alberta, which are incredibly busy managing the current wildfire situation in the province.

SUNSET HOUSE AREA (GWF049) – CLASSIFIED AS UNDER CONTROL

The following information is the latest update provided by Alberta Forestry’s Incident Command in charge of the fire. Because this is a Forestry fire, they are the lead for firefighting operations and provide Greenview with information approved by them for release.

GWF049 is located 17 km east of Valleyview and is currently classified as Under Control (UC) at 50.3 hectares. Under Control (UC) means that the wildfire is completely contained and will be extinguished. Currently, 25 firefighters, various pieces of heavy equipment and a helicopter are working on this fire. This fire did not grow, we had a more accurate mapping. The fire was deemed Under Control at 17:30hrs on July 16, 2023.

EVACUATION ALERT CANCELLED
July 14, 2023, at 2:30 PM

The status of the GWF049 Sunset House wildfire was classified as Being Held (BH) and not expected to grow beyond its boundaries on July 14, 2023, so Alberta Emergency Alerting (AEMA)  has cancelled the existing 2-hour evacuation alert.
