Current wildfire status (Sunset House Area) update from Greenview Emergency Operations Centre

The following information is the latest update provided by Alberta Forestry’s Incident Command in charge of the fire. Because this is a Forestry fire, they are the lead for firefighting operations and provide Greenview with information approved by them for release.

Greenview strives to provide a timely high-level summary of active wildfires within Greenview and will post updates to evacuation orders and alerts as available and provided by Alberta Forestry and the Province of Alberta, which are incredibly busy managing the current wildfire situation in the province.

EVACUATION ALERT Issued
July 11, 2023, at 1:00 PM

Description: 
Two-hour Evacuation Alert – Sunset House Area
Area: GWF049 is a wildfire that is burning Out of Control 17 km east of Valleyview. This alert is in effect for everyone within a radius of 5 KM from Range Road 203 and Highway 669 in the Sunset House area. Everyone in the affected area should prepare for a possible evacuation with 2 hours’ notice. Gather pets, important documents and medication, enough food, water and supplies for at least 3 days.

IMPORTANT: This alert will be updated if an evacuation is required.

Stay tuned to www.alberta.ca/emergencyalert, local media for updates.

No evacuation is required currently. With worsening weather conditions, this fire could force evacuation of the affected area.

SUNSET HOUSE AREA (GWF049)
July 12, 2023 – 11:00 AM

The following information is the latest update provided by Alberta Forestry’s Incident Command in charge of the fire. Because this is a Forestry fire, they are the lead for firefighting operations and provide Greenview with information approved by them for release.

GWF049 is located 17 km east of Valleyview and is currently classified as out of control (OC) at 40 hectares. This wildfire was reported by a 310-FIRE caller at approximately 5:45 pm. June 10, 2023.  Structural sprinkler protection is being installed by Greenview firefighters as a precautionary measure to protect residents in proximity to the fire.

Forestry has 25 firefighters working this fire along with support from heavy equipment.
