Greenview to Enter Into Agreement with Landry Heights Homeowners Association

The Landry Heights Homeowners Association has a park on the Municipal Reserve, which includes a ball diamond and play structures owned by the association, and they would like to establish a temporary ice rink. Council authorized Administration to enter into a new agreement with the association for the purpose of operating a community park within the Municipal Reserve located at SE-15-70-6 W6M.

Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta Gets Support from Greenview

The Make-A-Wish Foundation creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. As of November 2020, more than 350 children in Northern Alberta are waiting for a wish, with 20 from the Peace Region. It takes ten gifts of $1000.00 to make a wish come true. Council moved to approve a sponsorship of $1000.00 to Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta, with funds to come from the Community Services Miscellaneous Grant.

Council Approves Letter of Support for Xplornet

Xplornet Communications Inc. (XCI) will be submitting a large-scale grant application to the Universal Broadband Fund (Federal Government of Canada), intending to ensure that connectivity improves to a minimum of the Universal Service Objective (50 down and 10 up) throughout Rural Alberta. Greenview Council directed Administration to provide a Letter of Support for Xplornet’s application. Greenview has previously issued one other letter of support towards an application for this grant.

Greenview to Partner with Woodlands and Thorhild Counties to Apply for Alberta Community Partnership Grant

The ACP program’s objective is to improve the viability and long-term sustainability of municipalities by providing support for regional collaboration and capacity building initiatives. The grant requires multiple municipalities to apply together, and Woodlands County is asking Greenview and Thorhild County to be partners for this grant to fund a Regional Rural Road Study. Council authorized Administration to enter into a partnership with Woodlands and Thorhild Counties for the Alberta Community Partnership Grant application.

Greenview Considers Cost Sharing Proposal for Emergency Medical Services Building in Valleyview

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) currently reside in the Valleyview Firehall, jointly owned by Greenview and the Town of Valleyview. With the current lease arrangement set to expire at the end of 2022, other options are being explored to address Alberta Health Services (AHS) requirements. Council accepted the correspondence dated December 16, 2020, from the Town of Valleyview regarding cost-sharing for a new proposed Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Building for the Ambulance Authority as information and directed Administration to prepare a detailed report on the proposed project. The Valleyview Volunteer Fire Department are looking for additional space to better serve their needs in the building.
