Bear Creek Folk Music Festival Gets Greenview Support
The Bear Creek Folk Music Festival Society is hosting its 7th Annual Folk Music Festival on August 16-18, 2024, in Grande Prairie, Alberta. The festival is organized and run by a non-profit society and governed by a volunteer board that helps coordinate staff and over 500 volunteers each year to make this event successful. Council approved a sponsorship of $5,500.00 to the Bear Creek Music Festival Society, with funds to come from the Community Services Sponsorship Budget.

Greenview Supports Mental Health Summit Promoting Wellness in Trades, Industry, and Agriculture
The Resource Centre for Suicide Prevention and Northwestern Polytechnic Office of Applied Research and Innovation are hosting the “Mental Health Summit: Promoting Wellness in Trades, Industry and Agriculture” from May 6-7, 2024, in Grande Prairie, Alberta. The goals of the conference include providing practical education and solutions about workplace mental health, focusing on trades, industry, and agriculture. Council approved a sponsorship in the amount of $5,000.00 to the Resource Centre for Suicide Prevention for the “Mental Health Summit, with funds to come from the Community Services Sponsorship budget.

Letter of Support Approved by Greenview for Helicopter Tourism Initiative in Grande Cache
Fallen Mountain Soap, in collaboration with Jasper Hinton Air, requested a letter of support from Council for their proposed new helicopter tourism business in the Grande Cache area. This experience will focus on showcasing the history of the Rocky Mountains and the culture of the Aseniwuche Winewak (Rocky Mountain People), who have lived and thrived in the Jasper, Hinton, and Grande Cache areas for centuries. Council fully supports this initiative and moved to provide a letter of support for this proposed helicopter tour business.

Tender Awarded for Sunset House Road Grading Services
Council awarded the three-year tender for the Sunset House Road Grading Services to J. Moody Grader Services at a rate of $138.90 per hour plus GST, with funds coming from the 2024 Operations budgets for 2024, 2025, and 2026. The Request For Quote was posted on the Alberta Purchasing Connection on February 15, 2024, with a submission deadline of March 11, 2024. Administration received two qualified submissions for evaluation, both proponents meeting all the mandatory requirements for consideration.

Letter of Support Approved for New K-12 School in Valleyview
The advancement of a new K-12 school underscores Greenview’s shared commitment with the Town of Valleyview in investing in the future of the region and ensuring youth have access to the tools and resources they need to excel academically. Council directed Administration to provide a letter of support to the Northern Gateway School Division regarding the development of a new Kindergarten to Grade 12 School in a manner that has connectivity to the Greenview Regional Multiplex in Valleyview, AB. Council further directed Administration to arrange a meeting with representatives from the Northern Gateway School Division before the Council break in August 2024 to discuss the proposed interaction between the new school and the Greenview Regional Multiplex in more detail.
