NOTICE: Please be advised that contracted sewer flushing and camera work will continue in Grande Cache beginning Monday, October 10, 2022, until approximately October 14, 2022.

Residents may notice a sewer smell after your street is cleaned. This could be due to the P trap in your basement having no water in it. If you notice a smell, please take a glass of water and fill the trap or traps so that gases stop coming into your home. This smell can happen when cleaning, depending on how your home’s plumbing was done, or if there is a blockage in your venting stack preventing air movement.

Regular updates as the work progresses will be available on our website at www.mdgreenview.ab.ca and on our Grande Cache, MD of Greenview Facebook page.

WHY CLEAN SEWER MAINS?

  • Sewer main cleaning helps prevent blockages and backups by removing build-up in the mains, including tree roots, grease, grit, and sand. This important maintenance work keeps our sewer mains flowing, reduces the potential for nuisance odours and helps protect our infrastructure.
  • Sewer main cleaning is also done for CCTV inspection work. These inspections allow us to see the condition of our sewer mains and make necessary repairs or replacements.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

You can help prevent blowbacks and odours in your home by:

  • Occasionally add water to sinks and floor drains to prevent sewer gases from entering your home.
  • Check your plumbing vents each spring and fall for blockages (e.g., bird nests or leaves).
