AHS recruits two family physicians for Grande Cache

GRANDE CACHE — Alberta Health Services (AHS) has recruited two family medicine physicians for the community to fill positions that will be vacated early next year.

The resignations of two current family medicine physicians are effective March 1, 2022. The two newly recruited physicians are required to go through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) Practice Readiness Program prior to practicing in the community. The new physicians may be ready to start seeing local patients next summer.

If needed, AHS can bring in locum (temporary) physicians as well as physicians from other communities to ensure local physician coverage at Grande Cache Community Health Complex.

Physicians are independent, contracted providers.  AHS works closely with physicians as partners in care while ensuring local care needs are met. AHS and physicians share a joint focus and responsibility for patients. AHS will work with physicians to ensure they provide adequate transition time if they choose to no longer practice in hospital settings.

AHS values the work rural physicians do every day to bring care to patients across the province and remains committed to supporting recruitment efforts to support their work.

AHS is grateful for the community’s support as work continues to ensure local care needs are met. AHS will keep the community updated as more information becomes available.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans
