World Junior Cup Trophy Coming to Grande Cache
The Grande Cache Minor Hockey Association historically applied through Hockey Alberta to host the World Junior Cup trophy to be displayed in the Hamlet of Grande Cache for the past 4+ years. This year, the request has been approved. The Grande Cache Minor Hockey Association will display the World Junior Cup trophy at a walk-through hockey expo at the Grande Cache Curling Rink on November 27, 2021, before the Cup proceeds to Edmonton for the World Junior Championships in December. Council approved a sponsorship in the amount of $5,000.00 to the Grande Cache Minor Hockey Association for hosting the World Junior Cup, with funds to come from the Community Service Miscellaneous Grants.

Greenview Approves Sponsorship for Best of Alberta Provincial Curling Championships
The Grande Prairie Curling Center presented to the Committee of the Whole on September 21, 2021, and have submitted a sponsorship request in the amount of $10,000.00 to host the Best of Alberta Curling Provincial Championships at the Bonnett’s Energy Centre in Grande Prairie from January 3-9, 2022. This will be the first time Alberta is hosting the Women’s and Men’s Championships at the same venue at the same time.

It is anticipated that there will be 9000 spectators in attendance at this 3-day event with exposure to a national viewing audience. The event will highlight local and regional curling sensations, many of whom reside in Greenview. Council moved to approve a sponsorship in the amount of $10,000.00 to the Grande Prairie Curling Center, with funds to come from the Community Service Miscellaneous Grants.

Sponsoring this event provides Greenview with the opportunity to participate in the Regional Partnership Curling Bonspiel November 19-21, 2021. Each partner would sponsor four teams of 4 players, with the choice of filling the team themselves. Council approved a sponsorship in the amount of $2000.00, with funds to come from the Community Service Miscellaneous Grants.
