FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Grande Cache Recreation Centre Ammonia Refrigeration Equipment Tender Awarded
The Grande Cache Recreation Centre is equipped with an ice arena and a four (4) sheet curling rink initially constructed in 1970. Since then, the artificial ice plant has seen several upgrades, including conversion from R22 refrigerant. During a routine seasonal shutdown inspection, a brine leak was discovered in a portion of the refrigeration equipment. Council awarded the Grande Cache Artificial Ice Plant Ammonia Refrigeration Equipment Tender at the Grande Cache Recreation Centre to Cimco Refrigeration, Edmonton, Alberta, with an upset limit of $155,145.00 plus GST. Greenview further approved a 10% contingency fund if required with an upset limit of $15,514.50, with funds to come from the Grande Cache Recreation Reserve.
Grande Cache Events Centre Design Moving Forward
Administration submitted the Grande Cache Events Centre Community Hall request for a design service proposal (RFP) on the Alberta Purchasing Connection in June of 2021. The RFP sought a design consultant to develop a significant Events Centre featuring an indoor flow through an outdoor setting within the current Grande Cache Recreation Centre site. Four bid proposals were received and evaluated. After careful consideration, Council authorized Administration to enter into an agreement with GEC Architecture, Edmonton, Alberta, to provide design service for the Grande Cache Event Centre Community Hall in the amount of $209,950.00 plus GST, with funds to come from the Recreation Capital Budget.
Council Approves Coal Position Statement
At the June 8, 2021, Regular Council Meeting, Council had a discussion regarding the 1976 Coal Policy and Councillor Winston Delorme made the Motion: 21.06.310 “That Council have a discussion regarding their viewpoints on the 1976 Coal Policy and current or potential future coal exploration in Alberta and to bring back several samples of position statements for Council’s consideration.”
Greenview Council moved to adopt the following as their Coal Position Statement:
“Greenview acknowledges the environmental and societal challenges with the mining of metallurgical coal within the Province of Alberta. To mitigate these challenges, the Coal Policy must establish clear regulations and process that evaluates impacts to local communities, environment, and the fundamental values of Indigenous People, all while securing adequate reclamation funds for proper recovery of environmental impacts. With such measures in place, Greenview supports the responsible mining of metallurgical coal within Alberta.”
