Public Hearing Scheduled for Cozy Acres Proposed Subdivision Minor Area Structure Plan
Administration has received an application to adopt a new minor area structure plan (Minor ASP) for the quarter section legally described as SW 29-70-24-W5M, 0.6 km south of Sturgeon Lake in the “Cozy Cove” area north of Highway 43. Council gave first reading to Bylaw 23-948, the Cozy Acres Minor Area Structure Plan, as presented and moved to schedule a Public Hearing to be held on August 22, 2023 at 9:15 am in Valleyview Council Chambers.
Policy for Outdoor Patios Approved
Council approved Policy 6009 “Patios on Public Property” as presented. This policy was created to introduce the licensing of public property for the use of businesses to create a patio space. This will assist businesses seasonally in creating a temporarily larger footprint and the ability to increase traffic through their business.
Greenview Approves Pilot Project for Beautification Grants to Businesses
In June, the proposed Beautification Grant Policy was fully reviewed. Numerous communities in Alberta and Canada have significantly benefited from Beautification Grants. This initiative has boosted local traffic by up to 23%, enhancing the visibility and success of local businesses. Even minor aesthetic improvements can greatly attract more customers, showing that a refreshed look can substantially impact consumer attraction. Council moved to approve Policy 7500, “Economic Development Grant for Beautification,” as a pilot project to be revisited at the 2025 budget review.
Community Futures Fundraising Event Gets Greenview Support
Community Futures Grande Prairie Region requested a $5,000.00 sponsorship for the Fundraising Gala to be held on August 26, 2023, in Grande Prairie, Alberta. All funds raised, aim to foster more Economic Development projects within the City, County, and Greenview, directly impacting all areas. Greenview Council approved a $5,000.00 sponsorship which will incorporate the promotion of Greenview’s brand on the event signage, social media recognition, and verbal announcements.
Grande Cache Minor Hockey Association Memorial Icebreaker Tournament Sponsorship Approved
The Grande Cache Minor Hockey Association has organized an exciting weekend of WHL hockey for the Hamlet of Grande Cache and surrounding communities. This event aims to bring top-quality hockey to the hamlet while also generating funds for the Grande Cache Minor Hockey Association and the community as a whole. The weekend schedule includes two exciting games between the Edmonton Oil Kings and the Prince George Cougars, with one game on Friday and another on Sunday. In addition to the games, Saturday will be dedicated to various on-ice events, family activities, and a meet-and-greet session with all the players from both WHL teams. Council approved a sponsorship of $6,232.00 to the Grande Cache Minor Hockey Association for hosting the Edmonton Oil Kings, and to cover the Grande Cache Recreation Center fees on September 15-17, 2023, with funds coming from the Community Services Grants and Sponsorships budget.
External Auditor Tender Awarded
For the past ten years, Greenview has utilized Metrix LLP auditing firm for Greenview and Greenview Regional Waste Management Commission’s annual financial audit. This contract came to a natural end after the 2022 financial audit. In alignment with the Municipal Government Act, Greenview must appoint an auditor to complete the annual financial audit for Greenview, FCSS, LAPP, and APEX. A tender for an external auditor was posted to the Alberta Purchasing Connection on March 20, 2023, and closed on April 4, 2023. Three proposals meeting mandatory requirements were received and evaluated.
Council awarded the Request for Proposals for an External Auditor to Fletcher Mudryk LLP for a three-year term in the amount of $171,289 plus GST, with funds to come from the respective Corporate Services and FCSS operating budgets, and further appointed Fletcher Mudryk LLP to be Greenview’s auditor for the 2023 annual financial audit.
