Grande Cache Family and Community Support Services Location Change Proposed
The Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) department in Grande Cache, currently located in the Provincial Building, has been offered an opportunity to relocate to a larger space within the building. This space will provide more space for confidential meetings and programming, as well as improved internet services and a second exit for safety. Council moved to defer their decision for this proposed relocation while Administration gathers additional information before bringing this back for Council consideration.

Greenview Movember Spin-a-Thon Fundraiser Gets the Green Light
Greenview is planning a fundraiser for Movember Canada, a mental health initiative, at the Grande Cache Recreation Centre and Greenview Regional Multiplex. The spin-a-thon, facilitated by fitness programmers, aims to raise awareness and funding for Movember, men’s mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. The event, approved by Council, will involve community members and local businesses, with 100% of proceeds going to Movember Canada.

Greenview Council voted unanimously to provide a letter of support to the Grande Prairie Pirates Fastball Association for its bid to host the 2025 Western Championships for U15 A Girls and U15 Boys in Grande Prairie, Alberta, in August 2025. Grant Approved for the Grovedale Museum to Upgrade Building Security
The Museum for the Pioneers of the Grovedale Society has submitted a capital grant of $10,000 for the supply and installation of security window shades for all mailboxes at the Grovedale Museum. The museum has been facing safety issues with community mail, with mailboxes being broken into three times within the last two years. The proposed shutters would be on a timer and secure all mailboxes, with access from morning until evening. The estimated cost of the project is $16,931 with GST, with a local energy company donating $3000.00 towards the security shutters. Council approved a capital grant in the amount of $10,000.00 to the Museum for the Pioneers of the Grovedale Society for the purchase and installation of security window shades for all mailboxes at the Grovedale Post Office, with funds to come from the Community Services Grant Budget.

Greenview Supports the Grande Spirit Foundation Harvest Dine and Dance Fundraiser
Council approved a sponsorship in the amount of $800.00 and an in-kind donation of up to $500.00 to the Grande Spirit Foundation Harvest Dine & Dance on October 5, 2024, in Grande Prairie, Alberta, with funds to come from the 2024 Community Services Donations & Sponsorships budget. The Grande Spirit Foundation is a non-profit organization, formed in 1960, that operates five (5) seniors lodges and fifteen (15) seniors apartment complexes. These accommodations allow seniors to live in affordable housing, currently housing over 600 seniors within the region.

STARS Air Ambulance Gala Fundraiser Support Approved
Council awarded the STARS Foundation a $2,500 table sponsorship for the “STARS Among Us Gala,” with funds coming from the 2024 Community Services Donations and Sponsorships budget. The Hollywood-themed evening will feature a VIP reception for key sponsors, followed by a red-carpet experience and dinner for all guests. Attendees will also get a behind-the-scenes look at a STARS mission and learn about the innovative medical technology that supports their life-saving work.

Tender Awarded for Greenview Fire-Rescue Sprinkler Systems
Council awarded the tender for the purchase of two Type 2 Sprinkler Protection Unit Trailers to C&V Sales Ltd. in the amount of $440,000.00 plus GST, with funds to come from Capital Project PS24004. The Invitation to Tender was posted on the Alberta Purchasing Connection on July 26, 2024, with a submission deadline of August 28, 2024. Administration received four submissions for evaluation, with two proponents meeting all the mandatory requirements for consideration.

Type 2 Structural Protection Units (SPU) are portable structural fire protection systems specifically designed to enhance safety and protect homes, businesses, or other structures from the threat of wildfire. During an evacuation, homeowners often do not have time to pack their sentimental and valuable items. These items, including the home and property, are left vulnerable to wildfire, so reliable structural fire protection is crucial during a wildfire to assist in protecting communities.
