Newly Purchased Valleyview Visitor Information Center Gets New Name
In 2024, Greenview purchased the Valleyview Visitor Information Center. The Center is a core asset in the area. Since 1979, it has provided travellers near and far with a first-class rest area and facility to obtain information from seasonal staff members on local points of interest. With this purchase comes the opportunity to review the existing name of the facility and choose options for renaming. Greenview Council was allowed to review the existing name of the facility, and after further discussion, Council chose to rename the facility to Greenview – Valleyview and Area Tourist Information Centre.
Greenview Council Approves Sponsorship for 2024 McDonald Memorial Round Dance
The 2024 McDonald Memorial Round Dance is scheduled for September 28, 2024, in Grande Cache. This free event is open to the public and includes a feast, bringing together the community for celebration and sharing a bountiful meal before the round dance. The event is in memory of Doris McDonald from Grande Cache Lake Enterprise. The purpose of the McDonald Memorial Round Dance is to heal, honour and celebrate life. To assist with costs associated with facility rental, Greenview Council approved a sponsorship of $3,000.00
Greenview to Proclaim the Week of September 23-29, 2024, as Rail Safety Week
Administration received correspondence from Canadian National Railway (CN) requesting that Greenview Council proclaim September 23-29, 2024, as Rail Safety Week in the Municipal District of Greenview. This initiative aligns with National Rail Safety Week across Canada. Council approved Greenview’s proclamation of the week of September 23-29, 2024, as Rail Safety Week.
Replacement Community Bus in Grande Cache to be Tendered
The Grande Cache Community Bus was removed from service in May 2024. In the interim, the backup vehicle (full-sized suburban) has limited the number of passengers per trip and has been challenging for those with physical limitations to get in/out. With a recent breakdown of the suburban, the time and cost of maintenance are becoming a concern for delaying the purchase of a new bus. Currently operating out of the Recreation Services Department, the Grande Cache Community Bus service offers Grande Cache residents and surrounding communities the opportunity to travel to Grande Prairie, in and around the Hamlet of Grande Cache, including the Co-operatives & Enterprises, and to Hinton. Greenview Council made the decision to direct Administration to proceed with the tendering for a replacement community bus unit as soon as possible, with an upset limit of $185,000.00, with funds to come from the Community Bus Reserve.
Council Approves Purchase of No-Till Seed Drill for Greenview’s Agricultural Services Department
During the finalization of the 2024 Capital Budget, Administration was requested to bring forward a report on a new no-till seed drill for the Grovedale satellite rental yard. Administration obtained pricing for the same model as the unit available in the Valleyview rental yard and received a price of $98,000.00. Administration noted that there is value in considering used agricultural equipment at discounted prices. By authorizing this purchase, Administration would be able to begin the search for a used No-Till Seed Drill for addition to the rental fleet during a time of year when this piece of used equipment may be easier to find. Greenview Council approved the purchase of a No-Till Seed Drill in 2024 with an upset limit of $75,000.00, to be sourced from unrestricted reserves.
Greenview Regional Multiplex Maintenance and Mechanical Full Inclusive Program Service Agreement Awarded
The Greenview Regional Multiplex’s current maintenance service expires on October 1, 2024. A Request For Proposal (RFP) was issued on July 8, 2024, and closed on August 1, 2024. Administration received only one qualified proposal that was submitted by the deadline. Greenview Council awarded Nordic Mechanical Services Ltd. the 4-Year Maintenance and Mechanical Full Inclusive Program Service Agreement in the annual amount of $159,684.00 plus GST, with funds to come from the Greenview Regional Multiplex 2024 Operational Budget.
