Updated Notice August 1, 2024:

Effective August 1, 2024, the Great Escape Trail is now accessible, with crossing allowed over the Sewage Treatment Plant Road. However, the Sewage Treatment Plant Road and the access from Bucksaw Ridge Trail will stay closed until the completion of the ongoing project on January 31, 2026. Half of the parking lot at the bottom of jail hill road will be open for parking to access the trails.

The Sewage Treatment Plant Road and Bucksaw Ridge Trail access will be closed until January 31, 2026, for upgrades to the Grande Cache Wastewater Treatment Facility. This measure ensures public and worker safety in the active construction area. Cooperation in avoiding closed areas is appreciated, with signs and barricades marking access points and closures. Please watch for further updates.

Notice May 24, 2024:

Sewage Treatment Plant Road & Bucksaw Ridge Trail access closures May 29, 2023 – January 31, 2026, for upgrades to the Grande Cache Wastewater Treatment Facility

Please be advised that construction will begin on May 29, 2023 – January 31, 2026, for upgrades to the Grande Cache Wastewater Treatment Facility. The Grande Cache Wastewater Treatment facility is a critical piece of infrastructure in the community and plays a significant part in protecting public health and the environment. Over the last 39 years, there have been little to no upgrades to the facility, and this asset has nearly come to the end of its functional design life.

As this will be an active construction site, section(s) of the Sewage Treatment Plant Road and Bucksaw Ridge Trailhead access will be closed during construction from May 29, 2023 – January 31, 2026. These closures are necessary to ensure the safety of the public and the workers. During the construction, other trailhead accesses along the Sewage Treatment Plant Road may become affected.

We ask for your cooperation in staying away from the closed areas. Signs and barricades will be placed to indicate closures. We understand that this may cause inconvenience for those that use the Bucksaw Ridge Trail regularly, but please plan your hiking or biking trips accordingly, as you will not be able to enter or exit that trailhead access. Please see the below map.

Please watch for further updates, and we thank you for your cooperation.  For more information, please contact Environmental Services at 1-825-347-2108.
