Junior B Hockey Showcase Coming to Grande Cache
The Grande Cache Minor Hockey Association and the Louis Delorme Memorial Committee are two non-profit organizations in the Grande Cache area who are collaborating to host a Junior B hockey showcase at the Recreation Centre in Grande Cache from September 16 to September 18, 2022. This premier event brings eight teams from the Northwest Junior Hockey League to one location to play exhibition games and host mini hockey camps facilitated for the local Minor Hockey Association throughout the 5-day event. Council approved a sponsorship of $5,000.00 to the Grande Cache Minor Hockey Association and the Louis Delorme Memorial Committee to host the showcase from September 16 to September 18, 2022, with funds to come from the Community Services Miscellaneous Grant Budget.

New Recreation Area in Little Smoky Officially Named Little Smoky Riverbend Park
The general construction of a day-use recreation site adjacent to the Hamlet of Little Smoky was completed in 2021. This new site provides access to the Little Smoky River and private picnic areas. Council was presented with three naming options. After a lively discussion, Council approved ‘Riverbend Park’ as the official name of the day-use recreation area located adjacent to the Hamlet of Little Smoky at NE 24-66-22-W5M.

Greenview Appoints Weed and Pest Inspectors for 2022
Greenview must appoint pest inspectors under the Agricultural Pests Act A-8 and weed inspectors under the Weed Control Act W-5.1 on an annual basis to comply with the applicable legislation. The inspectors typically are employed from May to September, and their functions are to inspect for the species listed in the Pest and Nuisance Control Regulation AR/184 2001 and Weed Control Regulation AR 19/2010. Greenview Council appointed 14 employees as Pest and Weed inspectors under Section 10 of the Agricultural Pests Act and Section 7 of the Weed Control Act for the term of their employment. We invite any members of the public with questions about weed inspections to call the Agricultural Services department at 780-524-7621 during business hours.

Greenview to Enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with Neighboring Counties for a Joint Wild Boar Surveillance Program
On March 23, Administration made the Agricultural Service Board aware of the Alberta Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Economic Developments’ intention to announce the Wild Boar Bounty Program renewal. While a concern to all municipalities, Greenview does not currently have a documented wild boar population. Established wild boar populations in Alberta are concentrated within Lac Ste. Anne County and Woodlands County. Greenview shares a large, unpopulated border with Woodlands County, and this area is challenging to monitor due to the low levels of human activity. Council moved to direct Administration to discuss a memorandum of understanding with neighbouring municipalities for a joint wild boar surveillance program funded from the existing 2022 Agricultural Services budget.
