The MD of Greenview is thrilled to have both facilities open and available to the public. Unfortunately, things haven’t been going as planned due to the pandemic and layoffs.
Because of the uncertainty caused by the pandemic, Greenview temporarily laid off staff when the province mandated COVID-19 closures back in December of 2020. Unfortunately, some staff members have since moved on to other jobs and won’t be returning. Provincially mandated closures with the uncertainty of reopening dates played a big part in the difficult decisions made by staff to look for alternate employment.
The Aquatic Centres in both facilities are feeling the most significant staffing issues, like many municipalities in the province. It is challenging to find fully certified Lifeguards available to work in our Recreation Centre locations. Lifeguarding is a gratifying job and looks great on a resume, but it requires a significant amount of training before applying for the job.
Until more lifeguards are hired and trained, the Aquatic Centres must reduce programming, pool capacities and alter Aquatic Centre hours slightly. Greenview values both the safety of the public and our staff. We are committed to our lifeguards’ health while working with the challenges of being short-staffed to stay sharp and ensure the safety of our patrons.
We recognize that this can become frustrating to our patrons. We want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we all move out of the pandemic and toward the fun of having everyone back in the facility.
