Council Highlights – May 11, 2020
2020 Tax Rate Bylaw
Council gave third and final reading to Bylaw 20-843 “2020 Tax Rate Bylaw,” which sets tax rates and provides authority to the Chief Administrative Officer to levy taxes. Changes from 2019 include reducing the overall municipal tax revenue by approximately $5.2 million.
- Urban Residential municipal tax rate has been reduced by 7%
- Farm/Residential municipal tax rate has been reduced by 7%
- Non-Residential municipal tax rate has been reduced by 15%
Council approves Municipal Emergency Management Bylaw Updates
Council has given third reading to Bylaw 20-851 “Municipal Emergency Management Bylaw”. The updates to the bylaw will ensure that Greenview is consistent with the new requirements that have been put in place by the Province, and will clearly define roles and responsibilities in the event of an emergency. Council retains the power to declare or terminate a state of local emergency through this update to the Bylaw.
Forestry Trunk Road Paving Gets Council Approval
Council has awarded the paving project of the Forestry Truck Road from KM 171 to KM 161 to Wapiti Gravel Suppliers for $6,855,965.04. It is hoped that the project will be completed Oct 15, 2020, subject to weather conditions.
Valleyview Health Centre Foundation Requests Funding for Therapeutic bath for Acute Care Ward
The Valleyview Health Centre Foundation has requested grant funding to purchase a therapeutic bath for the Acute Care ward at the Valleyview Hospital. Council has approved funding in the amount of $13,500.00 contingent on remaining funding acquired is to be expended in 2020. The total cost of the therapeutic bath, with installation, is $27,000.00.
DeBolt & District Ag. Society to Build an Outdoor Skating Rink
Council has approved the reallocation of funds from the DeBolt Outdoor Recreation Society to the DeBolt & District Agriculture Society to assist with the expenses of their outdoor skating rink project. The funds were the balance remaining from a 2019 grant that the Recreation Society had given for their updates at Hubbard Memorial Park, which were also to include an outdoor skating rink. The two groups have decided to work together to construct the rink at the DeBolt Sportsfield.
Ratepayer BBQS cancelled Due to Public Health Restrictions
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the public health restrictions surrounding it, the 2020 Ratepayer BBQ’s have been cancelled. Greenview Council and administration look forward to welcoming all back when it is safe to do so.
