Fire Advisory & Ban Information
Land within Greenview boundaries covers multiple Forest Protection Areas (FPA) and areas under Greenview’s jurisdiction, also known as Non-Permit Forest Protection Areas (FPA).
Within an FPA, the government of Alberta is the wildfire authority, manages and responds to all wildfires in those areas, and is responsible for issuing permits and putting on fire bans.
In Non-Permit FPA areas, Greenview is the wildfire authority, managing and responding to all wildfires and issuing fire bans.

What is a fire ban / fire advisory?
Fire advisory – A fire advisory is an indication that the fire danger rating has increased. Fire permits may be restricted. Safe campfires are allowed in campgrounds and backcountry or random camping areas.
Fire restriction – A fire restriction prohibits the use of wood campfires on public land but does allow wood campfires inside provincial campgrounds and private property. Fire permits may be restricted, suspended or cancelled and no new fire permits will be issued.
Fire ban – A fire ban prohibits wood campfires on public land, campgrounds and private land including backyard fire pits. Fire permits will be suspended or cancelled, and no new permits will be issued.
