Water Systems & Water Points

Greenview provides access to safe drinking water through regulated municipal treatment and distribution systems in serviced hamlets, as well as public water points located throughout the municipality for residential, agricultural, and limited commercial use.

Municipal Drinking Water Systems

Greenview operates regulated drinking water treatment and distribution systems serving the hamlets of:

  • DeBolt
  • Grande Cache
  • Grovedale
  • Little Smoky
  • Ridgevalley

Additional rural distribution systems provide municipal water service to select rural properties in the Valleyview, Ridgevalley, and Crooked Creek areas.

Municipal drinking water systems are operated by certified water treatment operators and monitored through routine sampling and testing to help ensure water quality meets provincial regulatory requirements.

Public Water Points

Public water points provide access to potable and non-potable water for rural users, agricultural operations, contractors, and communities without direct municipal water servicing. Water point availability, pricing, and access methods vary by location, and users are encouraged to review site-specific information before accessing a water point.

Potable Water Points

Potable water points provide treated drinking water suitable for household, agricultural, and limited commercial use. Depending on the location, access may include:

  • Truck fill access.
  • Jug fill access at select sites.

Potable water points are available in several Greenview communities, including Little Smoky, Crooked Creek, Grovedale, Grande Cache, Sweathouse, Sunset House, New Fish Creek, Goodwin, and Nose Creek.

Non‑Potable Water Points

Non-potable water points provide untreated water intended for approved non-drinking uses such as dust control, construction, or agricultural purposes.

Non‑potable water points are available in select locations, including Grovedale, South Wapiti, Sandy Bay, and Puskwaskau.

Using a Water Point

Water points operate on a user-pay basis. Rates are established through the municipality’s Schedule of Fees Bylaw and may vary depending on location and water type.

Some sites require PIN access, account setup, or coin-operated systems. Users are responsible for:

  • Confirming the correct water type before use
  • Following posted signage and operating instructions
  • Ensuring vehicles and containers are suitable for transporting water

Individual water points may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance or operational requirements. Service updates are communicated through Greenview’s website and official social media channels.
