Alberta Wildfire is actively responding to wildfire GWF040, located about 81 km southeast of the City of Grande Prairie and 19 km east of Highway 40. The wildfire is currently estimated at 5 hectares in size, with crews and aircraft on scene (information is based on Alberta Wildfires update at 7:00 pm https://www.alberta.ca/wildfire-update-grande-prairie-forest-area).
The Forestry Trunk Road is closed from the Canfor Road (km 70) on the north to the Simonette Forestry Tower (km 126) on the south to ensure the safety of firefighters, firefighting equipment, and the travelling public.
We strongly urge the public to avoid the area, as additional traffic could interfere with firefighting operations.
