Please be advised that Alberta Wildfire and the Sturgeon Lake Fire Department are planning to begin burning the grass hazard in the community of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation on Monday, April 7, 2025. Activities will continue until all burn units have been treated, ending in early May 2025.
The primary burning window will be 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, with exceptions to favourable and unfavourable conditions, as the ability to burn will be dictated by weather.
Additionally, crews will be near the highway burning the 2024 FireSmart project piles when conditions are wet and unfavourable to grass hazard burning but favourable to control burning woody debris piles.
