The pyramid-shaped mountain in the distance on the left side of Mount Mawdsley is Mount Russell. It is a challenging and remote hike for even experienced individuals. Reaching the summit typically requires a multi-day effort that includes a major river crossing of the Smoky River, significant elevation gain and loss, and long stretches of bushwhacking through dense forest. The trail is unmarked and rugged, demanding strong navigation skills and endurance. As hikers near the peak, the route transitions into a steep summit scramble with loose rock and exposed terrain. The mountain is part of the “Silver” tier in Grande Cache’s Passport to the Peaks program.
