Mount Mawdsley, located right in front of you and featuring a distinct, extensive ridge, is a challenging hike at an elevation of around 2,125 meters. The trail is approximately 11 kilometers long with 1,200 meters of elevation gain, and it includes a difficult crossing of the Smoky River. The trail head begins at the Sulphur Gates staging area and requires crossing the Smoky River by raft or boat. The route is poorly marked and requires good navigation skills, especially near the summit, where some scrambling is needed. Despite the difficulty, the mountain offers stunning views and solitude, making it a great destination for experienced backcountry hikers. In the Passport to Peaks program, it is rated a silver level summit. It can be finished on a very long day of 10-12 hours, or with 1 overnight of camping.
