UPDATE: May 31, 2025 – 7:30 PM
From AB Wildfire – Grande Prairie Forest Protection Area Update
Alberta Wildfire, the M.D. of Greenview, and Weyerhaeuser continue to actively respond to wildfire GWF034, located along the Two Lakes Road about 80 km southwest of Grovedale, near kilometre marker 2-125. The wildfire is currently estimated at 6 hectares in size and is burning in a log deck and nearby trees.
Ground crews, heavy equipment, helicopters, and airtankers are actively working to suppress the fire. Night firefighting operations are planned for tonight to continue making progress on containment. The Two Lakes Road remains closed to protect the safety of both the public and emergency responders. The fire is burning intensely in a large log deck, which is producing significant heat and smoke, making suppression efforts more challenging. Crews are working diligently to bring the fire under control in order to have the road reopened as soon as it is safe to do so. At this time, the estimated reopening is Sunday afternoon, June 1, depending on fire activity and progress on containment.
We strongly urge the public to avoid the area, as additional traffic could interfere with firefighting operations. There is currently no threat to communities, infrastructure, or Provincial Parks. The cause of the wildfire is under investigation.
