GWF040 – Evacuation Order Lifted and Forestry Trunk Road Opened

Alberta Wildfire continues to respond to wildfire GWF040, located approximately 78 km south of Grande Prairie and 19 km east of Highway 40. The wildfire is estimated at 370 hectares in size, with firefighting crews, heavy equipment, and aircraft actively working in the area.

Greenview Evacuation Order Lifted

Greenview has lifted the Evacuation Order for all areas between the Smoky River and the Forestry Trunk Road (FTR), including all access points along the FTR from KM 70 to KM 126, effective June 12, 2025, at 9:37 am in the area of GWF040

Forestry Trunk Road Now Open

The Forestry Trunk Road is now open to the public, and both public and industry access to the area may resume. Please use caution when travelling in the area. Wildfire crews continue to monitor the area, and active firefighting operations are still underway.

Alberta Wildfire and Greenview Fire-Rescue will continue to monitor the area closely. We thank the public and our industry partners for their patience and cooperation throughout this event.

M.D. of Greenview  evacuation order

The M.D. of Greenview issued an evacuation order yesterday which remains in effect. For everyone’s safety, it’s critical to follow all evacuation instructions, as wildfire conditions can change rapidly. Stay informed and be prepared to act immediately.

Forestry Trunk Road closure

The M.D. of Greenview has closed a portion of the Forestry Trunk Road. Access will be restored as soon as conditions allow. In the meantime, a temporary permit process is in place through Greenview for access to the Forestry Trunk Road. For the most up-to-date information on local (non-highway) road closures related to this wildfire, please check the M.D. of Greenview website and official Facebook page, as updates will be posted regularly and when available.


June 10, 2025 – 1:00 PM

Alberta Wildfire is actively responding to wildfire GWF040, located approximately 81 km south of Grande Prairie and 19 km east of Highway 40. This wildfire was detected yesterday, and is estimated at 325 hectares in size, with firefighting crews, heavy equipment, and aircraft deployed to the area.

A section of the Forestry Trunk Road has been closed. For the latest updates on local road closures (non-highway roads) in this wildfire area, check the M.D. of Greenview’s webpage and Facebook page.

M.D. of Greenview issues evacuation order

Alberta Wildfire is actively responding to wildfire GWF040, located about 81 km s outheast of the City of Grande Prairie and 19 km east of Highway 40. The wildfire is currently estimated at 5 hectares in size, with crews and aircraft on scene.
