Procedural Bylaw Amendment Clarifies Meeting Practices
Council gave third and final reading to an amendment to Greenview’s existing Procedural Bylaw. The existing bylaw sets procedures for Council and committee meetings under the Municipal Government Act, which allows councils to establish these procedures by bylaw.
The amendment sets clearer expectations for members attending electronically, including camera use and the ability to hear and be heard, while allowing the Chair to make exceptions when circumstances warrant. It also clarifies Greenview’s longstanding practice of livestreaming Council and committee meetings held in Council Chambers while they are underway. The changes are intended to support effective participation and explain existing practices.
Council Reviews Approach to Local Crime Prevention and Awareness
In response to a notice of motion brought forward by a member of Council for information on the possibility of sharing security footage showing acts of vandalism or criminal activity, Greenview will continue providing security footage to the RCMP to support investigations. In a report to Council, Administration outlined the privacy, legal and investigative risks of routinely posting footage publicly to identify people suspected of vandalism or break-ins. Any public release would be considered case by case and in coordination with the investigating agency.
Council also directed Administration to host engagement sessions with local Crime Watch groups or other relevant organizations. The sessions will explore ways to raise awareness through these groups and identify steps Greenview can take to support greater awareness and prevention of local crime.
Grant Supports East Smoky Meals on Wheels Program
The East Smoky Recreation Board will receive a $20,000 Community Impact Grant to support its Meals on Wheels program. The program delivers fresh and frozen meals each month to about 27 households, including seniors, families facing financial challenges and people who are ill or going through a difficult time.
The grant will come from Greenview’s 2026 Community Services Grants budget. The program also helps residents build connections with the volunteers who deliver the meals.
