Greenview Adopts Bylaw Supporting Seniors Housing in Valleyview
Greenview Council has adopted Bylaw 25-1004, the Heart River Housing Borrowing Bylaw, approving up to $10 million in funding to support the Red Willow Lodge Enhanced Living Addition in Valleyview. The project will add 30 new enhanced living units, expanding housing options and improving the quality of life for seniors in the region.
Delivered in partnership with Heart River Housing, the Affordable Housing Partnership Program, and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, this investment reflects Council’s ongoing commitment to ensuring safe, affordable, and accessible housing for Greenview’s aging population.
Funding Approved for Ken Sargent House Project
Council has directed Administration to enter into a capital funding agreement with the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation for a total of $500,000 to be paid in 2026. These funds will support the construction of the Ken Sargent House, a new facility near the hospital offering 21 affordable suites for patients and their families who travel to Grande Prairie for medical care. Funding will be allocated from the Community Services Regional Sustaining Grants budget.
Updated Development Guidelines and Municipal Servicing Standards Approved
Council has approved the updated Development Guidelines & Municipal Servicing Standards, effective October 14, 2025. These standards outline the technical requirements for designing and constructing municipal infrastructure across Greenview.
Last updated in 2017, the previous version did not reflect the needs of larger communities, such as Grande Cache, which was added to Greenview in 2019. The new standards include modern materials, drawings, and specifications to align with current engineering practices.
Administration worked closely with Council through 2024 and 2025 to refine the document. It will now be reviewed annually to address emerging products and procedures, with formal updates presented to Council every three years to ensure Greenview’s infrastructure keeps pace with community growth and development.
Council Adopts 2026–2028 Economic Development Work Plan
Greenview has adopted the 2026–2028 Economic Development Work Plan as the official guiding document for the Economic Development and Tourism Department.
Developed in collaboration with several Greenview departments, the plan sets a clear direction for future initiatives, priorities, and budgeting. The information was gathered through a facilitated two-day workshop that analyzed best practices from other Alberta municipalities and incorporated internal reviews to ensure alignment with Greenview’s long-term goals.
By formally adopting the plan, Council has provided clear guidance for Administration to advance economic growth, investment attraction, and tourism development across Greenview.
FireSmart Grant Application to Enhance Ward One Wildfire Preparedness Approved
Greenview Council has endorsed the submission of a funding application to the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA) Community FireSmart Program. Administration has applied for $27,100 in grant funding to support FireSmart initiatives for the Co-ops and Enterprises in the Grande Cache area.
The proposed project will engage community groups, including Victor Lake Cooperative, Grande Cache Lake Enterprise, Susa Creek Cooperative, Muskeg Seepee Cooperative, Joachim Enterprises, and Wanyandie Flats East and West Cooperative. This funding will enable Greenview Fire-Rescue Services to collaborate with these communities to deliver FireSmart education, conduct home assessments, and provide hands-on training. The initiative aims to strengthen wildfire awareness, prevention, and preparedness across the region.
Council Receives Update on Grande Cache Fieldhouse Renovation Project
Greenview Council received an update from ACI Architecture Inc. on the ongoing Grande Cache Fieldhouse Renovation Project, which aims to modernize the facility, improve accessibility and safety, and expand recreational opportunities for residents.
The project includes significant upgrades to aging infrastructure and will transform the former pool area, which has been unused since 2011, into a revitalized, multi-functional community space. Council’s review included updated concept designs, preliminary cost estimates, and recommendations to ensure the project remains financially sustainable. Several optional enhancements, such as a redesigned front façade, were also presented for consideration to balance visual improvements with overall project costs. This update marks an important step in advancing a modern, inclusive, and vibrant recreation hub for the Hamlet of Grande Cache.
Council Approves Grant Funding for the Royal Canadian Legion in Grande Cache
Greenview Council has approved a Community Impact Capital Grant of $32,226.75 to support the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #278 in Grande Cache. Council’s support recognizes the important role the Legion plays in the Grande Cache community, providing a gathering place that honours veterans and serves residents year-round.
