Greenview Supports Alberta Community Partnership Grant Application
Greenview has an opportunity to collaborate with the County of Grande Prairie, Town of Sexsmith, Town of Wembley, and potentially the Town of Beaverlodge and the City of Grande Prairie on an Alberta Community Partnership grant application. If successful, the $200,000 grant would be used to update both individual and regional economic development strategies. The County of Grande Prairie will serve as the lead applicant and manage the administrative process. Council moved to support the County of Grande Prairie in the submission of a 2024/25 Alberta Community Partnership grant application for a Regional Growth and Economic Development Strategy project.
Service Agreement for 2024-2025 Season Approved for DeBolt and District Ag Society Snow Removal
The DeBolt & District Agricultural Society is requesting snow removal around the DeBolt Sports Field and the DeBolt Centre parking lot. Administration received a snow removal request from the DeBolt & District Agricultural Society for the loop that leads in and around the Sports Field and the parking lot at the DeBolt Centre and indicated the society doesn’t have the budget or capacity to pay for snow removal, in addition to challenges recruiting additional volunteers. Snow removal around the Sports Field would provide access to the outdoor skating rink, and the DeBolt Centre parking lot would provide safer access to the DeBolt Centre. Council directed Administration to establish a level of service agreement for the 2024-25 season to provide snow removal services for the DeBolt & District Agricultural Society at the DeBolt Sports Field and the DeBolt Centre parking lot.
Council Supports Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA) Community Fireguard Program Application
Administration has submitted a funding application to the FRIAA FireSmart Program for $124,000.00 to re-treat 11.6 hectares of existing fireguards along the west side of the community development in Grande Cache. This re-treatment aims to remove any vegetation regrowth since the initial clearing, ensuring that the fireguards remain sufficiently open to provide a base of operations for emergency responders in the event a wildfire threatens the community from the west or northwest. Council fully supports the submission of the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA) Community Vegetation Management Program grant application.
Emerson Trail Veterinary Services Ltd. Grant Approved
Emerson Trail Veterinary Services Ltd. (ETVS) is a large animal veterinary practice that was established in 2018 to help service the Peace Country with the significant shortage of veterinary workers. ETVS regularly works with producers within Greenview, including residents who bring animals into the vet clinic, 80 kilometers West of DeBolt. Currently, there are approximately 60 Greenview residents who utilize ETVS services, with anticipation to increase Greenview clientele numbers to as many as 100 livestock producers within Greenview.
The practice has applied for a capital cost-sharing grant, as per Policy 6324, to assist in expanding the telemedicine and in-field diagnostic options ETVS is able to provide to livestock producers within the region. The applicant aims to increase the reach of a single practitioner and reduce the travel that may otherwise be required to deliver herd health services within the region. Council approved a capital grant in the amount of $30,000.00 to Emerson Trail Veterinary Services Ltd. (ETVS) to aid in the cost-sharing to improve access to veterinary services within the region, with funds to come from the 2024 Agriculture Services budget.
Grovedale Community Club & Agricultural Society Grant Approved
The Grovedale Community Club & Agricultural Society submitted a capital grant application for $61,010.00 to purchase a backup generator for the Grovedale Daycare and upgrade the washrooms at the Grovedale Community Hall. Council approved a community impact capital grant for the Grovedale Community Club & Agricultural Society, with funds coming from the 2024 Community Services Grants Budget.
Greenview Sponsorship Awarded to Grande Prairie Catholic
The Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools (St. Joseph Catholic High School), in partnership with the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA), are hosting the 2024 ASAA Football Alberta Bowl on November 22 and 23, 2024 at the Hanson Lincoln Field in Grande Prairie, Alberta. The host committee is a non-profit organization operating under St. Joseph High School and has requested a $1,500.00 sponsorship for the event. Council approved a sponsorship in the amount of $1,500.00 to the Grande Prairie Catholic School District in support of hosting the 2024 Alberta Schools Athletic Association Alberta Bowl on November 22-23, 2024, in Grande Prairie, Alberta, with funds coming from the 2024 Community Services Sponsorships & Donations budget.
Tender Awarded for Greenview Regional Multiplex Concession
Over the past few years, the Greenview Regional Multiplex (GRM) has seen an increase in demand for pre & post-workout options, including breakfast, lunch and dinner options, which support the nutritional needs of members usage in all GRM activities and programming. As this demand for food and beverage items has increased, the GRM has operated a small concession to help support the patrons and offer limited food choices. Administration launched a request for proposals (RFP) for the operation of the GRM Concession for three years, with the option to extend the contract for an additional two years. This tender was posted to the Alberta Purchasing Connection website on September 10, 2024, and closed on October 4, 2024. To ensure local vendors were aware of this opportunity, Administration shared the opportunity on social media and hosted a site visit and tour for potential proponents. One proposal was received meeting all mandatory requirements. Council awarded the Operation of the Greenview Regional Multiplex Concession to Magic Breeze Kombucha Inc.
