Valleyview, Alberta
New Tourism Centre Signs Approved
In 2024, Council approved the purchase and continuing operations of the Tourism Information Centre, previously owned by the Government of Alberta and operated by the Town of Valleyview. New signage would be required for the facility. The funding for new signage was approved in the 2025 Budget to allow for similar branding signage at both the Grande Cache Tourism & Interpretive Centre and the acquired Valleyview adjacent facility. Council approved concept signs for the Greenview – Valleyview & Area Tourist Information Centre and the Grande Cache Tourism & Interpretive Centre.
Greenview to Submit Application for Muskeg Seepee Co-Op Vegetation Management Program Grant
Administration has submitted a funding application to the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA) FireSmart Program for $109,100.00 to treat 8.1 hectares (ha) in and near the Muskeg Seepee Co-op with fire smart technology.
This proposed project will be for the treatment of 8.1 ha of new FireSmart vegetation management along the west side of the community development. This treatment will be a combination of thin prune and mulch treatments strategy while removing dead and downed woody debris as well. Council moved to support the submission of the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA) Muskeg Seepee Co-op Vegetation Management Program application.
Grande Gala Fundraiser Sponsorship Approved
The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre is hosting the 4th Annual Grande Gathering Gala on April 12, 2025, at the Bonnett’s Energy Centre, in Grande Prairie, Alberta.The Grande Gathering Gala will be a celebration of 60 years for the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre, offering a night of indigenous art, entertainment and dinner. Funds raised at this event help to support the organization to provide housing and homelessness support, health and wellness programming, food security and other essential services within the Grande Prairie and surrounding areas. Council approved sponsorship of $1,500.00 to the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre for the fundraising event, with funds to come from the 2025 Community Services Sponsorships & Donations budget.
Greenview Supports 2025 World Jet Boat Championship Event
Greenview Council has approved a $2,000.00 sponsorship for the 2025 World Jet Boat Racing Championships, an international event governed by the Union Internationale Motonautique (U.I.M.). This year’s races will take place in Peace River (June 20–22), Grande Prairie (June 24–25), and Taylor, B.C. (June 27–29). With an estimated 35 teams from Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and New Zealand, the event brings a significant economic boost as competitors, crews, and fans arrive early to prepare and explore the region. Two Greenview-based teams are already registered, with more expected to join.
“Women of the Wild” Camp Sponsorship Approved
The Northwest Junior Forest Wardens Association (AJFWA) is hosting the first “Women of the Wild” Camp at the Hide-A-Way Camp, located south of Grande Cache, AB, on June 6-8, 2025 and has requested a sponsorship to help cover the costs of holding the event over the weekend. The “Women of the Wild” camp is intended for Northwestern leaders of the association, helping to grow the leaders of local clubs while showcasing the Grande Cache area in hopes of expanding and hosting more events within the area in the future. Council approved a sponsorship in the amount of $2,200.00 to the Northwest Junior Forest Warden Council for this event.
Valleyview Gymnastics Club “Perfect Landing Fun Meet” Gets Greenview Support
The Valleyview Gymnastics Club is hosting its first “Perfect Landing Fun Meet” at the Greenview Regional Multiplex on April 5, 2025, and has requested a sponsorship to cover the cost of the Fieldhouse rental for the event. Council approved sponsorship in the amount of $2,059.97 to the Valleyview Gymnastics Club for the “Perfect Landing Fun Meet” on April 5, 2025, at the Greenview Regional Multiplex, with funds to come from the 2025 Community Services Sponsorships and Donations budget.
Tender Awarded – Water Truck Services for the Forestry Trunk Road
Water trucks are utilized on the FTR for applying dust control product early each year and then working with contract graders through the summer for further dust suppression. The Forestry Trunk Road primarily sees traffic from both the Forestry and Oil & Gas industries. As the 2024 water truck contracts for dust control on the FTR came to an end, Administration posted another tender for similar services for the 2025 year, informing Committee of the Whole at the January 21, 2025 meeting. An Invitation to Tender (ITT) for Water Truck Services for the Forestry Trunk Road (FTR) was posted on the Alberta Purchasing Connection website on January 27, 2025, with a submission deadline of February 21, 2025. In total, eight companies submitted bids for one or more areas. Administration reviewed the submissions, noting the tender was evaluated based on the lowest price per cubic meter of water in relation to the truck’s legal hauling capacity. Administration received 25 submissions covering identified areas on the FTR for evaluation, with 13 meeting the mandatory requirements for consideration. Council awarded the tenders as follows:
- Forestry Trunk Road Area 1 to J. Moody Grader Service Ltd. at a rate of $149.73 per hour with funds to come from Operations’ 2025 operational budget.
- Forestry Trunk Road Area 2 to J. Moody Grader Service Ltd. at a rate of $155.00 per hour with funds to come from Operations’ 2025 operational budget.
- Forestry Trunk Road Area 3 to Dust Dynasty Dynamics Ltd. at a rate of $179.00 per hour with funds to come from Operations’ 2025 operational budget.
- Tender for Water Truck Services for the Forestry Trunk Road Area 4 to Gerwatoski Holdings Ltd. at a rate of $180.00 per hour with funds to come from Operations’ 2025 operational budget.
Tender Award – Grande Cache Pumphouse Upgrades
A tender was issued on January 23, 2025, for the construction of the Grande Cache Distribution Pumphouse Upgrades on the Alberta Purchasing Connection. This project was previously tendered in 2022 but did not move forward at that time due to being over budget. The 2025 version of the tender package includes all the originally planned upgrades from the 2022 version, along with additional improvements to the water treatment plant. Together, these upgrades will provide Grande Cache with a more resilient and efficient water distribution system. The tender closed on February 20, 2025, and the process followed a two-envelope system. In collaboration with Associated Engineering as the project consultant, Administration received one proposal for evaluation, which met the mandatory requirements for consideration. Council awarded the tender for the Grande Cache Distribution Pumphouse Upgrades(Project RD24006) to Alpha Construction Inc., in the amount of $2,629,597.00 plus GST, with funds to come from the 2025 approved Capital Budget, Project WD19004. Council also approved additional funding in the amount of $249,107.00 to cover 10% contingency costs of Capital Project WD19004, with funds to come from the Water Utilities Reserves.
Tender Award – Grande Cache Fieldhouse Consulting and Project Management Services
The Grande Cache Recreation Centre offers a range of amenities including an aquatic centre, arena, curling rink, fitness centre, and meeting rooms. Major renovations in 2011 expanded the facility, adding new common areas, washrooms, multipurpose rooms, and offices. In 2023, Administration advanced design work for a Fieldhouse in the former pool space. The final design was presented to Council in June 2024 and included in 2025 budget deliberations. With approval to proceed during budget planning, the tender was posted on the Alberta Purchasing Connection on January 30, 2025, closing on February 25, 2025. Administration received three proposals for evaluation, with two meeting the mandatory requirements for consideration. Council awarded the Request for Proposal for Consulting and Project Management Services for the Grande Cache Fieldhouse to ACI Architecture Inc. in the amount of $545,000.00 plus GST, with funds to come from the RE21007 Grande Cache Community Facility budget.
Tender Award – Recycling, Waste, and Confidential Shredding Services
The current contract for recycling, waste, and confidential shredding services within Greenview is set to expire on March 31, 2025. This one-year contract was initially established due to the anticipated changes to the Regulated Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) System, which comes into effect on April 1, 2025. With a clearer understanding of the changes under the EPR system, Greenview Administration has opted to proceed with a multi-year approach. The tender was posted on the Alberta Purchasing Connection on January 27, 2025, closing on February 21, 2025. Administration received two proposals for evaluation, with both meeting the mandatory requirements for consideration. Council awarded the Request for Proposal for Recycling, Waste, and Confidential Shredding Services to Prairie Disposal Ltd. for a three-year term, in the amount of $700,464.00 plus GST, with funds to come from the Environmental Services and Facilities Maintenance operational budgets.
Tender Award – Greenview Seasonal Beautification
The Request for Proposal (RFP) for Greenview Seasonal Beautification was developed in collaboration with Facility Maintenance and Agricultural Services. The primary objective was to secure a vendor capable of providing multi-year pricing, guaranteeing plant species, and, most importantly, willing to collaborate with the Administration to navigate diverse weather and growing conditions. The tender was posted on the Alberta Purchasing Connection on January 30, 2025, closing on February 25, 2025. Administration received one proposal for evaluation, which met the mandatory requirements for consideration. Council awarded the Request for Proposal for Greenview Seasonal Beautification to Willow Valley Landscape Centre Ltd. for a period of three years, in the amount of $129,571.14 plus GST, with funds to come from the operational budgets of Agricultural Services and Facilities Maintenance.
