Supporting Penson School Parent Group in Grovedale for an Outdoor Multi-Use Sports Court
Students and community members in Grovedale are one step closer to a new outdoor multi-use sports court. Council approved a Community Impact Grant of up to $80,000 to the Penson School Parent Fundraising Society to support construction of the project at Penson School.
The new court will provide space for basketball, volleyball, pickleball and physical education programming, while also serving as a shared recreational amenity for the broader community. The project is a partnership between the Parent Fundraising Society, Peace Wapiti Public School Division and the Grovedale community, with significant fundraising already completed by local families and businesses.
Teepee Creek Stampede Sponsorship Supports Regional Tradition
A long-standing regional celebration of western heritage and rodeo culture will receive support from Greenview through a $2,500 Gold Buckle sponsorship for the 2026 Teepee Creek Stampede, taking place July 9-12 in Teepee Creek. The annual event attracts approximately 40,000 visitors and features professional rodeo competitions, chuckwagon racing, family activities, and live entertainment.
Council approved the sponsorship as part of Greenview’s Community Services Sponsorship Program, continuing the Municipality’s support of an event that provides cultural, agricultural, and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors throughout the region.
Greenview Supports Community Connection, Remembrance, and Veteran Recognition
Community connection, military remembrance, and veteran recognition will receive additional support through a $2,000 sponsorship for three Canadian Motorcycle Tourism Association events in Grande Prairie in 2026. Funding will support the Community Table program, a commemorative event marking the 110th anniversary of The Loyal Edmonton Regiment, and Indigenous Veterans Day.
The Canadian Motorcycle Tourism Association operates the Veterans Memorial Gardens and Interpretive Centre and works to preserve and share the military history of Northwestern Alberta.
The sponsored events bring together veterans, families, Indigenous community members, seniors, youth, and residents to strengthen community connections, honour service, and promote greater understanding of the region’s military heritage.
Greenview Continues Support for Fireman’s Pit Maintenance in Grande Cache
A well-used community gathering space in Grande Cache will continue to receive municipal maintenance support following Council’s decision to authorize lawn mowing services at the Fireman’s Pit as an in-kind donation to the Grande Cache Firefighters Association for another three-year term, from 2026 to 2029.
The arrangement continues a long-standing service previously provided by the former Town of Grande Cache and later by Greenview. The in-kind contribution, estimated at approximately $9,500 annually, helps maintain the site for community use while supporting the volunteer efforts of the Grande Cache Firefighters Association.
Upgrades Planned for Grande Cache Ball Diamond 1
Future improvements to Diamond 1 at the Grande Cache baseball field are set to move forward following Council’s direction to enter into an agreement with the Grande Cache Minor Ball Association (GCMBA) for the proposed renovation project. Council also directed Administration to establish an agreement allowing visible third-party corporate recognition to support fundraising efforts for the project.
The proposed upgrades aim to enhance Diamond 1’s capacity to host competitive baseball programming up to and including the 18U level and may include improvements such as field enhancements, dugouts, irrigation, fencing, bullpens, a batting cage, and other supporting infrastructure. The project would be funded through grants, sponsorships, and fundraising efforts led by the GCMBA, with no municipal funding requested at this time.
