Greenview Council Approves Peace Area Motorsports Association
PAMSA (originally Grande Prairie Stock Car Association) operates and maintains the Hythe Motor Speedway in Hythe, Alberta. The track is one of the premier motorsport ovals in Western Canada, with a 3/8-mile high-banked track with a grandstand, concession, media tower, and a small dirt track for lawn mower and kids’ races. The event attracts racers and crew members from all over Canada, with approximately 50 participants from Greenview, including crew and families. Council approved a sponsorship in the amount of $2,000.00 to the Peace Area Motor Sports Association to host a racing event on August 30 – September 1, 2024, at the Hythe Motor Speedway in Hythe, Alberta, with funds coming from the 2024 Community Services Donations & Sponsorships budget.
Tax Recovery Public Auction
The tax recovery process is the last resort mechanism municipalities use to collect outstanding property taxes and is strictly legislated. When property taxes remain unpaid for more than one year, a Tax Notification Caveat is placed on the Land Title. A notification is sent to the landowner and other interested parties, as shown on the title, advising them. If the property tax arrears remain unpaid on March 31 of the following year, the municipality may sell the property by Public Auction. The municipality has one year from April 1 to place the parcel for sale by public auction. Greenview Council voted to set the Tax Recovery Public Auction date for Monday, September 12, 2024 at 9:00 am, to sell the identified properties. Details will be available on the Greenview website.
Valleyview and District Agricultural Society Gets Approval for Funding Agreement for New Facility
The Valleyview & District Agricultural Society is a non-profit organization that has been active for 56 years and is an integral part of the community, providing a facility for recreational and educational events. The Society’s current facility is experiencing significant issues and has been deemed at the end of its projected lifespan by the current Ag Society Board. To assist with this large-scale endeavour, Council directed Administration to enter into an agreement with the Valleyview and District Agricultural Society in the amount of $4,000,000.00 for the construction of a new Agricultural Society Facility, with funds to come from the 2024 unrestricted reserves.
