Agricultural producers can still access water for livestock and crops during low-flow conditions through several means.
A list of potential alternative water sources is available at https://open.alberta.ca/publications/water-act-water-diversion-for-agricultural-uses-during-low-flow-conditions
*During low flow conditions, water users are advised to contact their regional office before applying for a TDL to verify if TDLs are being considered for the above alternative water sources.
Additional Information Resources available include:
Drought โ Current conditions page – https://www.alberta.ca/drought-current-conditions โ a landing page that links to a number of drought-related sites and information
Alberta River Basins (live map) – https://rivers.alberta.ca/ – shows live flow and water level data from monitoring stations (top base layer listed on right hand side of page), and current water shortage advisories for each โwater management areaโ (sub-basin) (second base layer listed on right hand side) โ the details of each specific advisory can be brought up by clicking within a water management area while on the second base layer, or by clocking the banner at the top of the page โ the โhelpโ button at the top right corner of the page provides more detailed guidance for navigating this site
Environmental Records Viewer (ERV) / Authorization Viewer – https://www.alberta.ca/authorizations-issued-under-the-wateract-or-epea โ there are now two different sites that can be used to pull up authorization records โ the new ERV is the one to use for license information (click โWater Actโ once directed to the ERV page) โ this site may be useful for producers finding potential water sources – they will be able to see what sources have been previously used in their area, and the conditions associated with previous diversions โ the โhelpโ button in the top right corner of the page leads to a user guide which should help with site navigation.
