Alberta Youth Employment Incentive Launched

Kickstarting careers for young albertans

Alberta’s government has announced the launch of the Alberta Youth Employment Incentive, a new program designed to help young people gain the experience, skills, and confidence they need to start rewarding careers. With $8 million in funding, the initiative will provide grants to employers to offset costs related to hiring, training, and employing youth between the ages of 15–24.

The program is expected to support around 1,000 businesses and create opportunities for 2,500 young Albertans to enter the workforce.

Beginning in October 2025, eligible employers can apply for grants through CAREERS, the not-for-profit organization managing the program:

  • Employers who hire 1–2 youth (minimum 400 combined hours) can receive $4,000.
  • Employers who hire 3–5 youth (minimum 750 combined hours) can receive $7,500.

Through this initiative, Alberta’s government is helping cover up to $10 per hour of youth wages, encouraging employers to open doors for the next generation of talent.

In addition, a new digital badge will be introduced for youth who complete at least 200 hours of work and pass a skills assessment. This credential will help young Albertans demonstrate workplace skills to future employers.
