Valleyview, Alberta

Greenview Councillors Appointed to MD of Smoky River ICF Committee
The Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework between the Municipal District of Greenview No 16 and the Municipal District of Smoky River No 130 was signed in November 2019 and followed with an accompanying bylaw. The Rural Intermunicipal Development Plan Committee was established under the Intermunicipal Development Plan as the forum for reviewing the Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework. Council appointed Councillor Dale Smith and Councillor Sally Rosson to the Smoky River Rural Intermunicipal Development Plan Committee.

Greenview Library Board Financial Reviewer Appointment Authorized
The Alberta Libraries Act requires Council to approve a person to review a library board’s records and submit a financial report annually. Council made a motion on March 9, 2021, “That Council authorize the MD of Greenview Library Board to engage Donna Toews to conduct a review for the year ending 2019 for the MD of Greenview Library Board.” The original motion was carried out, and the Greenview Library Board would like to appoint Donna Toews as the Financial Reviewer, with no end date. Council authorized, and this appointment will continue until a change is requested from Council or the Library Board.

Greenview Passes 2022 Interim Operating and Capital Budgets
Focusing on the continued development of critical infrastructure, maintaining and enhancing essential community programs and services, with the continued support of regional partnerships and collaborations, Councillors with the MD of Greenview have approved 2022 Interim Operating and Capital budgets as well as the 3-year operating plan. The operating budget saw a slight percentage decrease while keeping with existing service levels. The capital budget was approached in the same manner seeing a slight reduction without sacrificing any planned infrastructure projects, and remains fully funded from restricted reserves.

Greenview Industrial Gateway Preparing for Carbon Sequestration
Greenview has previously engaged McDaniels and Associates to support the Expression of Interest submission to the Province of Alberta for carbon sequestration and management adjacent to the Greenview Industrial Gateway. The Province will review this submission, and if Greenview is approved, more technical analysis will be required in the next round of consultations. Administration is being proactive in case the original submission is successful. The timelines for these types of submissions are historically somewhat marginal. Council moved to award McDaniels and Associates a contract in the amount of $224,000 for further carbon sequestration engineering and technical support for the Greenview Industrial Gateway (GIG), with funds to come from the GIG operating budget.
