Council Highlights – February 24, 2020

CAO for the Day
In late 2019 the senior leadership team sent out a contest call to Greenview employees to write a letter to apply to be the Chief Administrative Officer for a day. Susanne Nichols sent in an engaging letter outlining some great reasons why she would be the best first “CAO for the Day,” and the date was set. This internal contest runs twice per year and is open to all Greenview employees. Susanne remarked, “I am very honoured to be the acting CAO. This is going to be fun!”

Council Welcomes New Community Services General Manager
Council was pleased to welcome Gerry Murphy as the new General Manager for Community Services to Greenview.  Gerry brings 20 years of diverse experience in parks and recreation, facilities and overall municipal administration to his position. Most recently, Gerry was the Town of Cochrane’s Senior Manager for Community Services, a position he held since 2017. Gerry stated, “I am very excited to join Greenview and help move Council priorities and strategies forward.”

A lifelong learner with a strong commitment to public service excellence, Gerry has many credentials to his name and is an active participant and contributor to multiple municipal boards, including the Calgary Municipal Metro Board’s Technology Advisory Group and the AUMA Safety and Health Committee, to name a few. In his free time, Gerry enjoys being outdoors on his motorcycle.

Range Road 201 Road Improvements Tender Awarded
Council voted unanimously to award the contract to build approximately 1.6 km of new road and 1.6 km of road rebuild for Range Road 201 to Klassen Brothers Northern Ltd. for $1,586,252.00, with funds to come from the 2020 capital projects budget.

New Rescue Pumper truck for Grande Cache Fire Station
With an eye toward improved operations and safety for the Grande Cache Fire station, Council has approved the Wet/Rescue Fire Apparatus tender to Commercial Emergency Equipment Co. in the amount of $1,241,100.00, with funds to come from the Protective Services Capital Budget. This tender’s purpose was to find a suitable truck to replace two units operating within the Grande Cache fire station. It is estimated that with the purchase of this new rescue pumper, which will replace 2 trucks, there will be a reduction in operating and maintenance costs.

 Greenview Fire Service Rebranding
In keeping with the new regional fire and rescue services model being adopted in Greenview, Council approved the rebranding of the service provided by Greenview fire departments to be identified as MD of Greenview Fire Rescue Services. In addition, the three fire departments in DeBolt, Grande Cache, and Grovedale will be changed to Fire Stations. A number will be added to each station for clearer identification for Fire Dispatch and mutual aid fire services and partnered agencies.

  • DeBolt Fire Station #31
  • Grande Cache Fire Station #32
  • Grovedale Fire Station #33

The ’30 series’ was chosen to ensure Greenview numbers do not conflict with other regional fire services.

Community Peace Officer Vehicle Tender Awarded
In 2020, Greenview will establish its first-ever Community Peace Officer Program (CPO). The department will consist of a Bylaw Officer and 4 Peace Officers. In preparation for this program, numerous efforts are being made to prepare for its implementation. A significant component of this preparation is the purchase of suitable vehicles for law enforcement. Council awarded the tender to Westgate Chevrolet (2018) Ltd. for $187,804.00 with funds to come from the Community Peace Officer capital budget for the purchase of 4 police service SUV’s.

50th Annual Wanham Plowing Match
Now in its 50th year, the Wanham Plowing match event organizers are looking forward to their upcoming event in their community. Council is pleased once again to assist with a Diamond sponsorship in the amount of $2000.00 to help organizers offset costs with this year’s operation of the event.
