Greenview Approved to Proceed with the Grande Cache Community Coal Transition Fund

Effective November 28, 2019, Greenview received approval from the Province for a full year extension on the Grande Cache Community Coal Transition Fund.  With the dissolution of the Town of Grande Cache, Greenview inherited the Grande Cache Community Coal Transition Fund, a $324,800 grant originally allocated in 2018 to assist Alberta communities affected by the coal-phase out to support community economic development initiatives.

Projects within this grant were developed to:

  1. Create interest in Grande Cache’s back-country and outdoors;
  2. Grow tourism activities in Grande Cache, and;
  3. Work with regional partners to promote tourism

In September 2019, this grant project was handed over to Greenview’s Department of Economic Development & Tourism to proceed with.  With the changes of municipal governance and project management, Greenview also requested a budget reallocation to align with our new strategic direction and priorities.

Greenview will be proceeding with tourism and marketing initiatives to promote the Grande Cache region, including trails and wayfinding signage, tourism operator support, and a digital marketing campaign.  We are excited to regain momentum on these projects and help enhance the tourism industry within Greenview’s Grande Cache region.
